Pokemon stands for Pocket Monster. The hunters of Pokemon capture them into a ball and put in the pocket, I think, so it's called Pokemon.
Beside, Digimon stands for Digital Monster. Digimon comes from digital world, which is formed from human world's networking.
In the other words, Pokemon is a kind of animal or maybe some organism that lives in real live. While Digimon is data.
However, Pokemon Go doesn't make the Pokemon like Pokemon, but I think they are as similar as Digimon, because human just be able to see them from digital device.
